What makes me smile....

I Spent the day yesterday, taking sofa and loveseat cushion covers off of our very used but comfortable set and washing them. I decided they were old enough, I was willing to risk tossing them in the washer to see what would happen. The back cushions were floppy and no longer did their job. So I bought some new foam, (there was an amazing Presidents' day sale!) cut it to fit and stuffed them back into the cushions.

They went from this...

and this...

To this.....

and this....

The picture doesn't show how much better they really look. They are still old and a bit grungy looking, but the improvement is huge! While the covers were washing, I took the opportunity to scrub the dirty arm rests and back. I feel like I bought new furniture!

Last night, I watched Courtney perform in her winter concert. She has a sixth sense when it comes to my camera, and has learned some pretty evasive moves to avoid being caught by my lens. Luckily, I captured this image by sheer luck. The rest of the pitures I took of the evening, have a music stand stratigically placed in front of her face.

And finally, the lighting was put in the house and this pretty little number makes me grin every time I see it. I LOVE it! It now hangs in the entry way waiting to welcome visitors.

Look at that face....

Today, I spent the day being a nurse to my wisdomless son. The teeth not the knowledge. Lucky for him, the surgeon only had three to remove. He is cozily snuggled on the couch right now, dozing off and on as his body tries to rid itself of the drugs that took him to sleepyville.

He had to go into surgery fasting, which is no small feat for a teenage boy. He has, so far, eaten two yogurts and water, with the various scheduled meds he must take for the next few days. I'm sure it will be too soon before he has his voracious appetite back.

I can't wait.

Until then, I will continue to change his bloody gauze, administer meds and give extra hugs and kisses. He is worth it.

Jan, my fan, be careful. While you are looking at me, I may be spying on you! How else can I learn to be just like you?;)

Now, the reason you are reading this...... the winner of my very first, (and possibly last) giveaway is.......

That's right, when I entered all the numbers into Random.org, the winning number was the very last commenter. Lucky girl! I'll be dropping off your card soon. I hope you and your hubby enjoy it!

Update and a giveaway

Progress on our house is at break neck speed. Over the weekend we (when I say we, I mean Tom, with help from a dear friend and his son) installed the plumbing for a central vac system and were wrapping up the last bit of wiring as the sheetrockers were screwing in drywall. We also frantically threw in some sound insulation in the bedrooms. Our home is becoming more and more real with each new screw and wire. The paint colors, both inside and out, have been picked.(It is a miracle I know, considering my lack of decision making abilities.) The only decisions left are the counter-tops, light fixtures, towel bars and carpet.

From the kitchen, looking into the family room.
